YEEEEES on all counts.
Also, should be a good year for animation. Studio Ghibli's doing an adaptation of The Borrowers, which looks adorable, though I can't remember the movie title at the moment. And Disney's Brave looks fantastic -- Mulan in Scotland! What's not to love?

As well as Brave! I'm so excited for that movie it's ridiculous.
Also...Beauty and the Beast 3D. This Friday. Yep, I'm totally going this weekend.

Also...Beauty and the Beast 3D. This Friday. Yep, I'm totally going this weekend. I have such mixed feelings about this whole rerelease-classics-in-3D trend. I mean, I'd love to see Beauty and the Beast in theatres, and it's one of my favorite movies, but does it have to get headache-tech added on? The sweeping ballroom shot is dizzying enough already, and I can't imagine what the 3D would actually add to the experience. The only way for 3D to be done well is for it to have a really ginormous scale. Lots of sweeping pans of open fields. Lots of outside. That's the only way to get the most out of the technology -- it's why Avatar was so gorgeous. I mean, I hate Titanic, but the ad for it in 3D actually looks pretty cool -- the shot of the ship going down, and the pan up the tilting deck? That is what 3D is made for. PS: 1,000 POSTS! BOO YAH, BITCHES.

I wasn't sure about it when Lion King 3D came out but oh my god it was GORGEOUS. They honestly used the effects so well - like the wildebeest stampede was just amazing. Granted, Beauty and the Beast is a film with a lot more close, indoor shots than Lion King, but I can't see how it would make it bad or anything. And being in the theatre that was made up of half little kids (one of whom my friend and I heard when Mufasa was lying in the ravine going, "Daddy? Why is Mufasa taking a nap?" and my heart broke) and half students our age was honestly brilliant. It turned into a singalong thanks to all the twenty-somethings. A SINGALONG. I really loved the experience. And yes, I am absolutely going to see Titanic in 3D when it comes out! I love that movie!

I love Disney movies as much as the next person. But I honestly think that they are re-releasing these titles simply to make money and that's just sad. And yes, I would still go to see them.

I can understand doing The Lion King in 3-D; I mean, to me, it just makes sense. But Beauty and the Beast? The only scenes I can imagine it working for are the dancing scene and the fight scene at the end.
...Though I'll admit it'd be pretty awesome to see the Beast change back to human in 3-D.

I don't know why, but I can't get excited for Brave. This is baffling as I love Scotland, archery, and Pixar.

I know it's out already, but Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I read the book for a postmodernism class last semester and it's absolutely brilliant, and I'm so curious to see how they managed to translate everything in the book into movie-form. Hopefully I'll be able to go out and see it sometime this week.
