I was pretty cranky they went with Hal Jordan instead of John Stewart as well--and the movie looks kind of terrible. I say this based on the awful costume, mostly, but also because DC tends to make...not the best live-action movies lately, unless they're helmed by Chris Nolan. (PS WHERE IS MY DEADPOOL MOVIE, MARVEL? GET ON THE STICK.) And! And! Serpentheart, have you read the Isaiah Bradley stories? There were some rumors when pre-production started on Captain America that Will Smith would be Isaiah, but, obviously, that didn't happen. Because America, it is so post-racial (blegh). But I'm still looking forward to the Cap movie anyway, because...the advertisers know how to do their jobs, mostly? And Peggy and Papa Stark! And Chris Evans' chest.Thor-naysayers: JEREMY RENNER. I saw that movie for his cameo (and also shirtless Thor and snarky Kat Dennings, but that is neither here nor there), and I REGRET NOTHING. (AUGH the avengers movie it is next year how am I to live that long?) Obviously, X-Men was the shit, although Mystique's storyline made me kind of cranky and I don't know why they named that character Moira MacTaggart. And Kevin Bacon? Just...Kevin Bacon. I don't even know. And I don't know how this hasn't been mentioned yet, but: Cowboys & Aliens? On one hand: Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford and Shit Blowing Up Real Good; on the other hand: Cowboys & Aliens. Thoughts?

The only reason I am looking forward to this movie is Daniel Craig dressed as a cowboy. Daniel Craig dressed as a cowboy. Daniel Craig dressed as a cowboy.

Why has no one told me that they've made Snowflower and the Secret Fan into a movie? It doesn't look that great from the trailer, but still!

SO MANY.
The Tree of Life, which hasn't come out in my city yet but I have been increasingly desperate to see since January.
Harry Potter, natch.
Circumstance, so so so so so so much. So much.
Columbiana - just yes.
I think there are others but they're not coming to mind just now.

Moira MacTaggart is a character form the comic books, only there she was a Scottish geneticist who studied mutants rather than a random love interest. I really enjoyed X-Men but the way they Americanised her and Banshee for no particular reason annoyed me. Unlike a lot of fans, I don't mind adaptations which don't match up to the canon, because let's face it, most comics have so many conflicting storylines it's practically a requirement, but with names like MacTaggart and Banshee which are obviously connected to the Scottish and Irish origins of the characters it's a bit of a middle finger to make them all American. /rant You say 'cowboys and aliens' like it's a bad thing! The combination of scifi and the good ol' Wild West has a long and noble heritage.

Oh, I know Moira's background--that's why I was like, "Really? We're going to name this brunette American CIA agent Moira MacTaggert?" Marvel, it's okay to make original characters sometimes! Hello, Rachel Dawes. Though Moira is sometimes a love interest for Professor X, so maybe they were going off of that? But then why does she have to be American, as opposed to Interpol? (And that would have caused some great tension with Erik.)
And I just don't know about Cowboys & Aliens. I like steampunk and I love space westerns, but I just...don't know.
ETA: OMFG, I didn't know about Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It doesn't seem like it would be a particularly easy book to film, though--so much of it happens inside their heads.
And Columbiana! COLUMBIANA! I'm just gonna go watch The Losers right now to psych myself up for ultimate ass-kicking Zoe Saldana.

Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wlk7TsdhsYI am not sure how I feel about it from the trailer. I get a "wholesome Chinese values" vibe from it, like an Amy Tan book, which I disagree with. The foot binding scene really stuck with me, so I hope that they don't gloss over it and make it seem like it is such a wonderful thing.

Anyone watch the Transformers movie? I still have explosions in my head. I couldn't see or hear the storyline past them. Seriously, there was more explosions, running, and obvious lack of Megan Fox than an actual plot. Seriously, they made such a point to rub in her absence and make her seem like a bitch. I hate you Michael Bay. I do NOT understand the flying ships! What are they doing!? Why!? WHY?! It's just as bad as when they made Sherlock Holmes about "magic." And why make the musketeers into ninja like assassins? Why can't they just work with what they have? Or was that too boring!? I do like the the age appropriate D'Artanian. And Orlando looks hot as a villain. Mathew looks hot too, and that voice, *fans self*

I hate you Michael Bay. YES. That movie literally went nowhere. When the credits rolled I hoped I was being Punk'd and the real ending would show up. I'm just going to pretend that movie did not happen. And the girl who replaced Megan Fox did nothing but scream the entire movie. I applaud her acting.

Did anyone see Midnight in Paris? I loved it. I think part of the reason I enjoyed it so much is because I want nothing more than to attend one of Gatsby's parties.

RE: Transformers-
I will not hide the fact that I enjoy these movies. I like the characters, I like watching Shia LeBeouf grow as an actor, I like seeing explosions and car chases and everything else the movie had in it.
Plotwise? They're meh, just as the other two were. But you get what you expect. These aren't budgeted, aimed at, or advertised as high-class movies. They're Michael Bay films. That means explosions, car chases, and pretty women being saved by the male protagonist. If you go in expecting anything else, you'll be sorely mistaken.
The third one was great, in my opinion, because it was aimed to be a 3D movie but it didn't exaggerate that quality of the film. There were two scenes that were clearly aimed at being THE 3D scenes of the film, but as I was watching it (in 2D), I was quite pleased that they weren't randomly throwing shit at the screen to make use of the 3D film. 3D would have added the extra dimension to the visual aspect of the film, which is what those types of films should be aiming to do. Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon and TRON: Legacy are the only two 3D films I have seen that have successfully portrayed the film in both 3D and 2D.
RE: Megan Fox-
She was fired because she complained in an interview about Michael Bay. Plus, she's an idiot. I'm glad she was fired.
RE: Three Musketeers-
The Chris O'Donnell version will forever be my favourite rendition of that book.

I was a fan of the first two films. I just thought that the explosions went a bit overboard. I couldn't focus on anything other than BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Also Michael could have bit the better man and not make Megan look like a total bitch. I watched it in 3D and it was actually quiet good, for once I didn't get a headache because of it. And nothing was flying at the screen.
