Man, I graduated this summer, and I read a book in one day on Sunday. That's huge for me; I'm a slow reader.
It was The Hunger Games (which I thought was very good, though the comma splices irritated me).
Yeah, college does take up all reading time, because the last book I read before that one was...um...probably required for class.
Now I'm reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. It contains all the humour and poignancy I expect from Alexie.
Was happy to see they're both books in the top ten challenged books for 2010 and so fit the criteria for Banned Books Week. =D
After Alexie, I'll either read Thirteen Reasons Why or Midnight Never Come. Mom and I went to Seattle on the weekend and bought books, which are always cheaper in the States.

I really liked Thirteen Reasons Why. It's a different take on an idea and it really draws you in.
Right now I'm procrastinating on reading Emerson's Nature.

Nothing, and it's very upsetting. I'm too broke to buy books and I have issues with secondhand/library books. Life's a bummer.

I mean, you know who else has read it, and (we'd hope) you trust them (to an extent). Alternatively, this is fate! You are destined to reread old favorites until you come into some cash.

I didn't think I've had an issue with second-hand books, until I got one from paperbackswap. I was a little ticked off that while the pages are clean and unmarked the spine is extremely creased and almost broken. All the books that I post on there are in excellent condition. I mean all books are fine as long as they are in at least a decent condition, but I don't think a nearly broken spine is that decent.

Also, I'm reading:
Pride and Prejudice -- for class. American Gods -- for myself.

Ooh, you actually just reminded me my boyfriend has a few books kicking around that I'd like to read. I have no idea what's up with me lately, but I am just not interested in rereading things (which I usually do, no problem!). Thanks

I'm not put off by the condition of the books, but the cleanliness; I know most people aren't pigs, but you never know who didn't wash their hands after using the toilet/who sneezed on the pages without covering their mouth. It's slightly irrational, I know, but it's how I am!

I'm reading I Served the King of England by Bohumil Hrabal, Imagined Communities by Benedict Anderson and, ermm, a history of French cinema by somebody whose name I can't remember.

I once wrote a creative nonfiction essay on the importance of handwashing. Maybe I'll post it on the writing forum... It hasn't been getting much love lately. EDIT: Posted it! I am reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen currently, as October is the publication anniversary.

The Disappearing Spoon, by Sam Kean. Picked it up just today (yesterday here, technically) at a book festival. It's all about the periodic table and the elements and it's so fucking witty and smart I don't know what to do with myself. I had the book signed and went to a presentation Kean gave on it he's just as smart and witty as his book. A highly intelligent man (and not bad looking, either). If you're interested in science at all (and even if you're not) I would highly recommend it.

Guys, I finished American Gods. I didn't love it, but it was an amazing story, and I think the ending made me like it. I think it was the first modern adaptation of mythology that I actually really enjoyed. Also finished Pride and Prejudice, re-read for me, enjoyed it much better this time around. Not sure what I'm gonna be reading next, either North and South by Elizabeth Gaskel, Twelve Extraordinary Women of the Bible, or Anna Karenina (in Russian) when it gets here!
