North and South! North and South! This makes me want to get my copy from off the shelf and starting reading it again. American Gods is good even if it is just, like you say, for the good modern adaption of mythology. Okay!! I'll start with that. Have you watched the BBC adaptation with Richard Armitage? Good grief, if that man gets any hotter the world will melt!

I got books for my birthday! Woo!
Right now I'm reading "Magic Hour" by Kristin Hannah. She's not my favourite author, but I'm really enjoying this book.

I finished "Magic Hour" and while I was really interested in the topic of the book, I ended up being kind of disappointed with it I also finished "The Things We For Love" by Kristin Hannah annndd once again, I enjoyed the book, but I ended up being disappointed with the ending I have two more books to read by her, so here's hoping the endings don't fall short! (I know they're not meant to be amazing books... but she just lets her books kind of fizzle and die and I always have the sense of "I WANT MORE" when I finish.)

Mythologies by Roland Barthes... Still. I cannot get through it. Forty pages to go and all I want to do is hide it away in a box so I never have to see it again. D: Theeeen, also Beowulf.

I just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
I liked it overall, but I can pick on a few things. I kind of wanna watch the Swedish version of the film, but the woman who plays the girl is gonna be in the new Sherlock Holmes movie.... and I don't want the image of her in that movie to ruin Sherlock for me. I'll never forgive myself. Ever.

I'm reading The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. I'm liking it so far.

Yeeeeees Feast for Crows just arrived! Gonna finish up the super-smutty (totally awful) romance novel I got for free from Goodreads ASAP, so I can start on some GRRM goodness.

Devil's Business, the latest book by my crack author. It is, sadly, not as bad as her previous works.
But I'm only on pg. 26. There's plenty of time for her to mess it up.

The Twelve Wild Swans, by Starhawk.
Not a fiction book; a religious studies book.

The Twelve Wild Swans, by Starhawk. Not a fiction book; a religious studies book. Let me know how that is. I just picked up Drawing Down the Moon by Adler at the library yesterday.

Well, I was reading GRRM's A Feast for Crows, but then it went and FELL OUT OF MY CART at the Park Slope Food Co-op yesterday. For those who don't know, that's one of the biggest co-ops in the country in terms of memberships, and one of the smallest in terms of floorspace. Hundreds of people go through those aisles each day, and my book (and my bookmark souvenir from Venice) decided to get lost there. I've filed a complaint with the lost and found and checked it twice, but no luck; they say someone might have picked it up and kept it.
Suffice to say, I'm rather upset over it.
In the meantime, I'm trying very hard to enjoy Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice -- I've heard good things, but it's taken over a hundred pages to pick up even a bit, and my opinion of it isn't the highest (though it is higher than my opinion of the co-op).

Sorry about that. I've read A'sA. Yeah, it's a rather dry read. I liked the first one a bit, but the second was a struggle and I didn't bother with the third. Hobb is nearly as sadistic as Martin, but only towards her main character, which is unfair because the poor guy never seems to catch a break. It's a bit annoying.
