There have been more than a few memes about these beauties so I figured they deserved a topic of their own!
Personally, I'm a little addicted to these simply black (usually...I do have a red one...and a few pink "volants"...) notebooks. And it's honestly not just because they have become so associated with "artsy" or "intellectual" stereotypes. They're extremely durable, come in a myriad of styles, and contain some of the loveliest paper I have ever laid a pen on. I carry a small, black, lined one with me everywhere and record everything from notes to lists to schedules in it. The one I'm currently carrying actually contains my Stephen Fry autograph and all the notes I took during his lecture!
So, do you love them too? Do you think they're overrated?
If yours is particularly personalized, quirky, or well-loved, feel free to post pictures!

I was thinking about starting a topic concerning these, too. I don't understand why everyone's all gung-ho for them. D: I have one or two myself, though, which I bought during the Borders closing sale.

I haven't had the chance to buy a plain notebook, but I did snag one of their beautiful organizers/agendas. It has stayed in perfect condition the past 5-6 months and I've never written on smoother paper. I paid $25 for it, but for me it was definitely worth it.

I've always wondered: what is it about Molskines? Why this brand, as opposed to, well, any other? I mean, as far as I know, they're just notebooks -- it's what's inside them that matters.

Personally, I enjoy the paper (as krista said, I've never written on anything smoother), the durability of the oilcloth they're covered in (water resistant!), the ridiculously solid binding (I have NEVER had a page fall out. Ever.), and the sheer variety of sizes and styles that they come in (everything from tiny volants that are only about 1.5 inches wide to very large sketchbooks). I do have dozens of other, non-moleskine notebooks that I use all the time (my current primary writing notebook it a simple one I picked up at Borders because it had a lot of pages!) but for something that's going to get banged around in my purse, backpack, or pocket, I always use a moleskine!

Someone gave me a Moleskine sketchbook as a graduation present and I absolutely love it. It's ridiculously good, durable paper and the notebooks come in many sizes. Now, would I spend that much? Probably, if I had enough money.

I always just stick to the cheap composition notebooks. You know, the cliche speckled cover, the cheap college ruled paper. I don't feel bad about beating them to hell or half burying them in sand, but since they've got a harder cover than spiral bound, I can still write anywhere. I had a Moleskine, once. I just didn't enjoy writing in it... it felt like it deserved a second draft, not a first. Plus, it was a ridiculously tiny size.

Honestly, I just make my own notebooks. I take standard ruled paper, fold it into quarters, and stick a bunch of those together to make one booklet. Then I staple the booklet and get a bunch of other booklets to make one notebook as thick as I'd like.

My boyfriend loves the things. I, personally, don't really get it. I don't have a "special notebook" for ideas and stuff...generally it just goes in the margins of whatever I happen to be writing on now, and then gets transferred to my computer when I'm sitting in front of it.

I will agree that the paper is fairly amazing, but are they really worth the price? That's what's got my mind a bit boggled, as I'm not sure they are. Still, I do use them. Or, at least, I use one for my Tarot cards. It had the perfect number of pages and it's teeny tiny so I can stick it in my Tarot bag and all is good.

I have the same problem as many others: they look so good to write in, but they are costly. For a high school student with a below minimum wage paying job, such a fancy luxury notebook isn't really realistic. I use composition notebooks, mostly (I recently found these nice ones that are not the standard marbled covers but are reminiscent of Yearbook covers, all solid Color, sort of glossy, you know).

I've never actually used a Moleskine, but I hear they're amazing, and I think after reading this thread I might have to go out and buy one, hah.

I might buy one tomorrow if I'm lucky enough to have some money in the bank!

Just bought my first one. It's sitting beside me. I'm really excited to write on paper for the first time in forever. As soon as I can get off the internet, I'll write. I opened it, felt the paper, and almost squealed.
