Any fellow Gleeks out there? Tumblr is full of them and it gets really crazy and I would just like some civilized opinions about the show and the writing of the plots and characters.

I've hate to admit that I am watching it. I'm into the second season a little bit, but have since been distracted by other shows. I have to admit, it makes me feel, how to put it, less than what would be stereotypically considered manly when I watch it.
Once again this show has that whole high school dynamic I'll call it, and all the obnoxious stereotypical acts that go along with it. I won't say it's a bad thing, just something I find obnoxious at times.
I do enjoy the themes or morals or messages or whatever you want to call them that it tries to portray. It present them in an extremely overt and clunky manner, but I again won't say it's bad.
The thing I like most about the show would be that it is JUST about a musical TV show. I hope that because of its apparent success that someone will again take the risk of producing an all musical TV show. Sadly the only other out there right now is Cop Rock, which is next to impossible to find nowadays. It was just far too ahead of its time.
Oh, and Emma is a total babe.

I watch Glee but I kind of dislike the 'fandom' because I think if everyone were honest, they would admit it's a crap show; there is NO consistency in plot/storyline, or even in the characters themselves; the writers just make whatever they like happen to fit in with the music and that's that. Having said that, it is enjoyable to watch and I love the songs and I like watching it, but I just wish people would see it for what it is, y'know?

I watch Glee so as to have an hour a week to turn my brain off and watch a fluffball dance around my television screen.

The fandom is crazy and will base a lot of what they believe should happen in the show off of things that were said by the cast and writers during a hiatus...and it's obvious that things in that show change so much it's ridiculous.

I think that a lot people put their expectations for the show way too high, leading to dissatisfaction with the show. I realize that the music won't always be wonderful, the characters may change, and a plot maybe be dropped here and there, but I have no problem with that. Personally, I don't find the inconsistencies to be all that alarming or disappointing. I don't know if it's because I went in with low expectations or what, but I feel that the characters are consistent enough most of the time to not bother me. There have been a few moments where I thought to myself "What the fuck are they doing?" but in general, I just like to see what happens and what songs they sing.

I do follow Glee, but at this point it's mostly for Blaine/Darren Criss and Jesse St. Sexy/JGroff Got my priorities straight

From a writing perspective, I thing that what makes the show so much more attractive than so many others is that each character has a drive and subdrives -- rather than all of them being dead-set on stardom, quite a few have other goals, be they get-the-girl or be-prom-queen. Where other shows are flattened to all characters wanting one thing, this one is more diverse that way -- making each character more uniquely believable.

Agreed, which is probably why I haven't yet had a violent reaction to the show. I can't stand most of the characters, though Kurt and Blaine make it more bearable than most shows. I'm a big fan of Puck, too.

I agree, the diversity is nice.
Oh, I began watching at the end of the first season and disliked a lot of the characters, I warmed up to them as the show has continued. I like most of the characters.

I must admit, I'm not fond of Rachel. She's either being a diva or harping over Finn, it seems like.
Of course I haven't seen all of the episodes yet, so perhaps I'm being premature.

For me, Rachel was the hardest character to like, second to Kurt, which may be surprising since he's one of my favorites now. She is a diva and harps over Finn, but I would say give it a little time. I know she grew on me. She still annoys me every once in a while. I find that expecting her to act annoying helps a lot...

I hated Rachel for all of the first season and most of the second (the whiney-diva-bitch thing got old about five minutes into the first episode), but she's really come around (for me) lately, and is actually being (gasp!) nice and somewhat generous to the other members. As in, thinking of people other than herself. Plus, the evolution of her friendship with Kurt makes me giggle.
