Just lightened the visited link color a bit. Is that better? Much better. Thanks! Might I suggest an introductions forum and a general talk forum? A "games" section would also be good for those who enjoy such forum things. Most of the forums I'm in have something similar to each of these. We have similar boards on another forum I frequent, and I agree that they would be quite fun to have, especially a games forum.

I adore the blog! I'll definitely be around often to discuss and talk and debate and do whatever else we English Majors ought to be doing together. Thank you so much for this!

In three words: "YES YAY GOOD"
A few kinks to be ironed out, but overall a good start. My main problem is that the grey of the text boxes is rather dark, which makes reading a tad more difficult than I like, but is there a setting for that? This is the first forum I care about enough that I think I'll stick around for, so I confess to not knowing a ton about long-term usage and settings and the like.
Another note is that the Writing section could profit from a few sub-boards -- "Fiction," "Poetry," "Creative Nonfiction," "Literary Criticism," and "Tips/Q&A" are my suggestions.
And, most importantly, your hastily photoshopped logo is beautiful.

While creating my account I noticed only two options for gender. This requirement puts people falling out of the gender binary in quite a bind. Is that changeable? Can selecting a gender not be required for this forum or can more options be added? Other than that, the forum seems great so far. I can't wait to watch it grow and see what it develops into. I feel like I need to pay extra attention to my grammar and spelling while typing posts, though. Edit: I just went in to modify my profile and I noticed there was an option which lets a poster hide their gender. That's handy, but I still wish there were more options avaiable. Several people are not just one or the other! I'm rather bothered by this too, actually....but that's the way proboards sets it up and it can't be changed. You'd think that they'd have gotten complaints about it and changed it by now!

I also think that the Writing section could benefit by dividing it into sub-sections. However, I believe that it being organized into two would be better: "Discussions" and "Criticism," with Discussions being for discussions on writing habits, the writing industry, and different types of criticism, etc. and Criticism being the place to ask for criticism of one's work(s), receiving criticism on said work(s), and criticizing a published work/author (such as Frankenstein or Whitman).

That sounds like a good possibility....except for the bit about criticism of works and authors, since that's what the Literature section is for.

I have no idea if this is an option for proboards or not, but other forums I've been on have had a setting you could change if you wanted to view the forum in a different color scheme (like, the default one as opposed to the custom one made my the mods). Dark text on a dark background is really difficult for me to read (especially with the smaller quoted text), and it would be nice if there was some way to switch to something easier on the eyes.

Those are called themes or skins, and proboards gives you the option to do so. They can just be...annoying to create.

I'm not sure if this is feasible or not, but is it possible for us to receive a notification of some kind when someone quotes us in a thread? On another forum I post in, this isn't possible because it would alert us if we had been quote in a behind-the-scenes discussion the mods were having about what we posted, and I know it might just not be possible with the forum software, but I figure it's worth asking.

In response to the gender question, you can choose one and then later go into your profile and choose to hide it. It's not the best solution, but it works.

I supply this hypothetical: You're taking a poll on the Internet, and it asks you for your ethnicity at the end, which is something real polls often do. You click the little down arrow, and what do you see? You see "White," "Black," and "Asian." Sorry everybody else, but that poll only wants whites, blacks, and "Asians" (even though Russians and Arabs are also Asians -_-). -- Having only "Male" and "Female" as options tells everyone that is not "Male" or "Female" that they are not "desired." It's fucking disturbing.

I understand that, but I am still going to call people out for thinking that it is okay.

I wasn't implying that the male/female binary is okay. Good gods, am I very much not implying that. I was only pointing out an option hidden in the Profile settings that I didn't notice the first three/four times I was in there setting up my profile that works for me and might work for others in my gender predicament until a better choice is provided on the initial form.
Geez. Relax.
