I hope I don't have to explain what this is...
Who is participating this year? Any newbies? Geezers? How many times have you won? Do you hate it? Love it? Or just love coffee so much you'll do anything to have the opportunity to have a bottomless pot brewing?

Uuuuugh, I am... and I regret it already. This is my first serious attempt at it, so my hopes are less than high, but it should be an interesting ride...
Not sure if the site has some equivalent of "friending" or whatever, but my username's the same there as here, so it shouldn't be a problem to find me.

I will do it. The word counter is great motivator, especially because you can't fudge with it. Well... you can, but you'll lose anyhow.
The problem is I don't know which idea to tackle.

Did it last year and won. Hoping to do it again this year. For those who don't know, check out www.nanowrimo.org for more information.

I have failed for the past couple of years. But this year I have a really good idea and I've got a lot outlined already and am hoping that I will actually win this year.

The problem is I don't know which idea to tackle. Confucius say: MASH 'EM ALL TOGETHER. This is the road to WINNING.

I have failed for the past couple of years. But this year I have a really good idea and I've got a lot outlined already and am hoping that I will actually win this year. Find your local WriMo group. I was the same way, until last year. I joined up with my local WriMos and the word wars basically wrote my novel for me. I would write over 1K per word war, and with 4 at a meeting, that's >4K in just an hour! I found that the trick to word wars is to just pick a scene, the next one you want to write, and just write that scene until the time stops. For my first, I was like "battle time!" so I just started writing a fight scene and kept writing it until the time was up. The next, I was like "chase scene!" and kept writing that until time was up. That way, I didn't have to wonder what to write about. I had an idea and I just had to stick with it.

I think I took it too seriously last year, so this year I'm just going to roll with it. Even if I don't win, I'll probably be halfway with writing my Great American Novel. I have absolutely no idea as to what I'm going to write about, though.
I like your process, Dodger! I think the reason I failed last year is because I tried too hard to keep the novel going from Point A to Point B instead of skipping around like I usually do.
Would anyone be up for e-word wars with the members of this forum? I think it would be pretty cool and further motivate us to keep writing.

I'm doing it this year. I plan on not only winning, but having a viable working first draft of a novel.
So that should be fun. I'm actually planning. I'm a hardcore pantser and I'm planning. Nano, it brings out the silliness.

It's Day 2! How's everyone doing?
I'm at 15,842 words so far. Had a 10K day today. Plan on hitting 25K by Sunday.
