Finally started my novel today. I'm still sick, so it's a bit difficult, but...we'll see. I wrote 616 words at home and then wrote through class today. I'll type it up here at work so that I can add it to my word count.

The first ten-thousand-or-so words of mine will be spent rehashing an old novel beginning -- cheating, maybe, but that doesn't mean it's going any more quickly. Killing my darlings is not the easiest. Anyway, until I've gotten that hammered out, I'm not even touching my official count.

I am going for 10,000 by the end of tonight, though right now I am at 9300 something. Sadly, I have another essay I have to write instead, and I'm just trying to get through it as quickly as possible.
Honestly, The Great Gatsby is an awful thing to write an essay about when you'd rather be novelling...

I got to 8K yesterday, so I'm now only ~3K behind. Started over. Got the entirety of my 8K done in about...three hours, on and off? I'm telling you, word wars/sprints are a gods-send.

Word wars and sprints are really awesome. I take the ferry fairly often (to go see my boyfriend) and I use the 2 hours of doing nothing as an excuse to write. It's like word-warring with Manannan Himself. Though I'm not sure if He's writing. He could be. /shrug. My word count is currently just over 28K. |

I want to do NaNo, but for whatever reason, I'm not feeling it. I'm not as driven as I was last year...guess that means I'm competing with myself. Oh darn.

PS: I tend to make less sense when sick, and since I don't make a ton of sense most of the time, expect a good deal of nonsensicalness from me for the next few days. Like, more than usual.

I've given up, which is unfortunate because my story was finally getting somewhere good. I was at 30K...*sigh* But my brain has turned to mush what with finals coming up and all the tests I've had these past few weeks. I feel like every day is another exam.
