Libertarian-Conservative. People should be free to do what they like and believe without barriers. The government should neither hinder us nor help us to the point of helplessness. I don't want to start an argument, but I believe that welfare is alright in small doses, but it isn't an income and shouldn't be treated as such. You're injured and you've worked all your life, fine. But if you don't even try to help yourself, that's not my problem and I shouldn't have to pay for that.
I'm registered Republican, but I'm as against them as I am against the Dems.

Is "apathetic" an affiliation? I really just hate politics, to be perfectly honest. :/ Haven't bothered to register to vote or anything. I lean conservative when I bother to lean at all so it's really not even worth it to vote in my liberal state anyway. Plus I think the two-party system is ridiculous and I'm hardly about to support it. Political apathy is the most common feeling AND the reason for the failings of the political system ^__^ For the most part people seem fairly liberal here which isn't really surprising to me. I was just very curious. A-FREAKING-MEN TO THAT. My government teacher from high school once asked us if we would vote once we all became of legal age and smacked every student who said they didn't care, which was about half of the class.

How many write in "Homer Simpsons" can we take? -__- I wish people weren't so apathetic but its a really hard thing to change

Damn the people The question is are people just bored or actually apathetic? You can change boredom so there would be some sort of hope. Apathy on the other hand...

Well, from people I've asked/spoken to about it, they either: - don't feel like they know enough and are intimidated by 'POLITICS' so they just stay out of the whole thing
- they hate politicians, think they're all dishonest, useless bastards and that it doesn't make a blind bit of difference whether they vote or not because some sleazy, jumped-up Eton boy is going to get in no matter what the actual result... which has been made about sixty zillion times worse since our stupid coalition came about

It's the same way over here.
A lot of people are either frightened by politics or the environment that it fosters (24-hour news channel partisan bitchfest) or the extremists on both sides of the fence...
Or think that no matter how they vote, both sides are going to screw them in one way or another.

Left wing extreme never really came about over here. I mean I hear all the "communist" and "socialist" name-calling but the USA is very right oriented. Good or bad? That's all in opinion.
But yea that pretty much seems about right. 24-hour news definitely doesn't help either -__-

I blame Glenn Beck and Michael Savage and all the crazy shit they spew for the failing political system in America. And on the left-wing it seems like everyone is delusional. I blame them too.
I think people are apathetic because they think their vote doesn't make a difference. We take our voting rights for granted when our forefathers and mothers had to fight for them and we don't appreciate their effort.

I think the spewing goes a little deeper than that sadly. And I definitely agree with your last statement.

I think the spewing goes a little deeper than that sadly. And I definitely agree with your last statement. I feel like punching them. For my mass media class last semester our professor showed us a clip of Michael Savage attacking autistic children and a huge crowd of protesters came forth to kick his ass. Guys like them don't talk politics; it's all just random shit to provoke people, and I guess it works--for all the wrong reasons. I'm so glad the days of Glenn Beck and his stupid chalkboard are over. The delusion on the liberal side was at its height during the elections last November. I found it hilarious that the Dems thought they could hold the majority on the Hill. It's totally true. And the people who do vote are so fickle. I told everyone around me that voting the GOP into majority at the House of Representatives was going to start a shitstorm on the Hill and lo, it did. I'm under the impression that people switch sides depending on which party sucks more at the moment. There's a technical term for that but I can't remember it now. We need to become more informed so we can vote accordingly. And encourage voting. Definitely. I think the reason Obama was so successful during his campaign is because he reached out to the young people and let his face be slapped on everything from t-shirts to tennis shoes to encourage us young people to vote. I'm sure that if the 18-25 crowd came out to vote it would make a huge difference.

What I hate most about the American political system is the binary. It's us or them. You can only be Conservative or Liberal (according to the media). You can only be for something or against it...there can be no grey areas. More often than not, I'm HUGELY disappointed in the Democratic party and would love to vote for someone more liberal than the mainstream candidates tend to be. Unfortunately, I'm forced to vote Democrat because it's either them or a Republican candidate.
