I'd never contemplate breaking a friendship or a relationship over a typo in a text. According to the blog, that's pretty radical thinking for somebody studying English literature.

I know some absolutely brilliant people who are terrible at grammar and spelling. It doesn't make them less intelligent, it just makes them bad at English. Where they fail at grammar, they excel in the sciences and mathematics. Not everyone can be an English major.

Yeah, if I had to break off friendships or romantic relationships because of typos or grammar errors or spelling mistakes, I'd be very, very lonely.

The Boyfriend has shotty grammar/spelling. He once spelled "neighbor" as "nabor".... *sighs*

I sometimes wish that exams were multiple choice and not essay.

Bwa ha ha ha yes. Except I just sort of ignore his horrible English skills because we're long-distance and I barely see him as it is; I wouldn't make him sleep on the couch for the weekend a month/every two months I'm over there. But mark my words, when we live together, I will train him to use better English through withholding sex! Maybe. *shifty eyes* I might...not, and just never let the kids see anything their father writes. Just send 'em to live with their former-English teacher Oma. That's the ticket. "Here mom, raise my kids too! Nate and I are off to the Bahamas!" ;D

I sometimes wish that exams were multiple choice and not essay. Oh jesus, I agree with you...if only because I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel and need to sometimes ice my wrist down after a day of exams.

I have an exam in 2 days and I wish it was multiple choice, too.

I sometimes wish that exams were multiple choice and not essay. GTFO! NEVAH. As a Bio minor, I love the ever living shit out of my Scantrons and multiple choice exams. I just scored a 94/100 on an A&P exam (yes, I may be bragging, but it feels good after all that stress) and it amazes me that most of the bio majors just barely passed. I mean, how much easier can it get?! Just narrow it down! I'd LOVE to see them write essays on the articulation of muscles to joints or whatever. Cyanea -- totally agree with that sentiment. My wrist hurts soooo much after essay exams. I have to stop now and then while I am writing so that I can rest my wrist. I've gotten sympathetic looks from the professors before and parts of me just wants to ask why they torture us if they know how painful it can be.

If a professor absolutely has to have an exam, it should be multiple choice. If they want to test a students understanding of a material in a subjective way, then assign a final paper. I can never write what I feel are my best papers in the 3-hours allotted for a final, and I always feel that my grade suffers for it, ESPECIALLY when a professor doesn't give the question beforehand to prepare OR gives you a list of questions and says, "I'm going to remove two." I think that's bullshit and unfair to the student to make them, during already stressful and time-crunch exam times, study for and prepare some essays that you're not even going to assign? Needless to say, when I'm teaching, I won't ever do that.
