My guilty pleasures are Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, and the Clique Series. They don't have any literary importance, and I can't say I haven't read certain parts and cringed at the writing (more specifically in the Clique books), but I have learned little life lessons in each one. Usually it's not even the intent of the book, but it just gets me thinking about life. I over-analyze things. Relatedly: Not a book, but I love the Gossip Girl show. It's surprisingly well-written, and the plot twists are actually surprising! Plus, nearly all of its "villains" have reasons for behaving the way they do, so they aren't actually villains at all, but just people whose self-helping actions happen to harm our cast of main characters. This "gray area" is a sign of flat-out good character creation, and rarely found on television.

I have two categories of guilty pleasure books. Level one is my collection of YA paranormal romance novels (such as 13 to Life and The Silver Kiss) which are reserved for wanting to unwind. But then I have level two: my supply of unbelievably bad, trashy vignettes you should really be paid for picking up instead of having to pay for. These are reserved for really bad days when I need to laugh at ridiculous euphemisms and badly-constructed plot.

I use Fictionpress for this -- I may not be paid to read those stories, but at least I don't pay, either. And the euphemisms are usually just as laughable!

I would say Stephen King, but i think he unjustly gets a bad rap. When I read a lot of Science Fiction stuff I usually feel a little guilty

I think I actually kind of consider my Favourite Book of All Time (The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice) a guilty pleasure, because it's not a classic, or old, or foreign, or difficult, but just wonderful to read. Apart from that, the Georgia Nicolson books by Louise Rennison. They're quick and easy and hilarious. I love The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets! I just finished re-reading it yesterday I've never talked to anyone else who's heard of the book, let alone read it! I read a lot of chick lit, both YA and adult romances. Meg Cabot is probably my favorite, to be honest. I like Sarah Dessen but there's something genuine about all of Meg Cabot's characters that I can relate to.

Not that I don't like her books - I do - but all of her characters...identical. Sarah Dessen's plots are all the same, but the unique and awesome characters make it worth reading, in my opinion.

I am slightly ashamed to admit that I really like YA fiction. The Wake trilogy by Lisa McMann is one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" reads. Of course, the last book was sort of shitty, but I suppose that that is how most final books to a series go. One of my friends begged me to pick up Sarah Dessen after I willingly ate up Twilight in one weekend (I was sixteen back then, ohkay) after her recommendation. I haven't had a chance to pick up any of her books yet, though.

My taste in books is pretty trashy to begin with so I don't have many things I actually feel guilty about. That said Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series is not something I'm particularly proud of enjoying. When it comes to urban fantasy my standards are nonexistent.
