I was a bit worried there over finals week: I had papers to write and there was a three-day marathon of our favorite show on xD.
And now I'm similarly spending my summer between CM marathons and job interviews. How about you? Oh, any college plans?

Criminal Minds and finding out 'no, they're not hiring'. Also, this forum.
Yup, I'm going to a tiny but excellent liberal arts school almost in the same city. I want to major in English Literature-Creative Writing. It's almost like a double major, I suppose.

In the same boat then, I guess.
ENG/CRW is an excellent double major. At my university they shared an office and were really closely related even if they were separate at the end of the day. Besides, how can people expect to write if they don't read?

Indeed! That's about what my college said. "Because good readers make good writers, the English Literature-Creative Writing major includes a strong foundation in literature; students choose from courses in British, Irish, American and postcolonial literatures; film; and the history and structure of the language."

*butting in, possible spoilers ahoy if you're not through season six*
JJ is coming back! I am so excited and yet so annoyed that she ever left!
It was amazing how the whole production made her and Emily's departures not only legit but heartwrenching. What I like most about the show is their refusal to fridge female characters. Especially Haley; god, I still cry when I see that episode. I hope that actress gets her own show and kicks ass in the ratings.
My show! I love it like a fluffy fanged bear!

I'm both glad they're coming back and mad that they left in the first place. Both actresses were devastated when they were cut, and they were cut for no reason. Similarly, Brewster wasn't asked back as much as the contact she signed with them FORCED her back. I'm glad that she and Cook are excited to be back, but it just seems like awful playground politics to me...
EDIT: Only semi-related, but my (rather sad) prediction is if they don't renew Gibson's contract and the show goes on without Hotch, the seventh season will be the last. I can just see the ratings plummeting. =(

From what I understand, it stemmed from budget issues relating to the launch of Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. Nichols' contract is way less than Cook's or Brewster's; considering the management's shitty treatment of the women of the show (my show! with the most equal male/female ratio!) I sincerely hope they don't kick Nichols out. The cast and crew and creators were all with Brewster and Cook, it was entirely a studio decision for them to leave; I can see it happening again with Nichols. AUGH, Gibson! Though, I thought he was holding out to ensure either Brewster or Cook was back in? Though if he does leave, Moore becomes lead, and he can carry the show, acting-wise. Ratings-wise, though, I can see a dip and then CBS scrapping the show because "America doesn't want black leads" (Undercovers, your cancellation still stings like a jellyfish!). I fret for my show.

I thought Nichols was officially out? I mean, she's talked about being fired and some of the other actors have mentioned it as well. I mean, I wasn't a fan of Seaver but no one deserves to lose their job just because someone else comes along/back.

I thought they opted to not sign Nichols/Seaver's contract.
I thought Rossi might automatically become lead, since he's the senior detective- and CBS probably would want it that way >.<
Though, Hotch did make Morgan Unit Chief during the Reaper era... so CBS might go with that.

AUGH, you are correct! Dr. Internet confirms! fffffffffffffffffffsubjectchange
...so, I caught "Revelations" earlier today and was kind of taken aback by the scene with JJ and Prentiss, where JJ is like "Why aren't you a mess like everyone else?" and Emily is all "...I compartmentalize well?"
She was a CIA operative, not a desk jockey! Her lack of breakdown fits in series continuity! My show, being pre-emptively awesome! (Let us not mention Hotch's brother, who was disappeared to a restaurant in New York after one (1) appearance.)

It's moments like that where I wonder if it's planning or just...they looked back and could write subtext after the fact. It's kind of cool all put together like that, but I doubt they were planning on writing Prentiss off four seasons later, yanno?

I was a bit like, "...Really?" when I watched it. Emily was so uncomfortable answering, and Hotch and JJ NOTICED NOTHING.

Oh, I'm sure it's not planning; they've maybe got a month to come up with scripts (?) and then the episodes are filmed in a week. It just makes me happy that they leave these little openings, that they don't reveal everything about the character all at once--which, I have to say, I had a bit of a problem with regarding Seaver, since her episode was one big infodump.
Example (and spoiler for the 2nd season)- Reid and Morgan's storylines were sort of half-hinted at during the first season, and then we find out the reason Morgan can't have serious relationship and reacts so strongly to child abuse, and why Reid gets so defensive of the mentally ill and why he depends on Gideon like he does. Their backstories fit seamlessly with their portrayal.
TL;DR- I feel like CM respects its characters, and treats them as human, unlike most other cop shows (which, don't get me wrong, I love the hell out of), and shows repercussions of trauma in a real and human way. Thus, its writers are smart enough to recognize and exploit (unintentional?) subtext in previous episodes and seasons.
So, CM's going on seven seasons, and the shark is still unjumped (despite execs trying their hardest). Our show is the best!
ETA for Silva: You have to admit, they were a bit stressed!

Oh, man, I wish I had a .gif of JJ popping up at the beginning of that episode, just 100% past gone. For some reason, that's the image I remember best about that episode, despite poor Reid's whompage.
I know, right, it's like "Criminal Minds! These guys are always stressed! What's so special about this--oh, yeah..."
