Hi there!
I did not notice this particular section of the forum until after I posted a couple of times... Oops.
I guess the first fact that I should get out of the way is that I'm not actually an English major... I'm a theatre major who was a huge English nerd in high school / who continues to be outside of her major! I became a huge Grammar Nazi last year when I was editing my school newspaper, and found FYEMA on Tumblr because I was looking for grammar jokes (I know, I'm a nerd). I understood and loved a lot of the writing and literature references too, so I decided to follow the blog, and I just discovered this forum!
In other slightly-relevant news, my name is Lucy, I'm Canadian, my sentences are often far too long for their own good, I'm a huge dystopian literature lover, and the best way to win my heart is with a good Shakespeare reference. I also watch far too much television for my own good, and if you are a Lost fan, we will definitely get along.
Nice to meet you all!

Thanks! Gah, it's a huge problem, and my professors hate me for it. I can't help it though... Short sentences just seem so mundane and simplistic sometimes.

Wooooo, Canada represent! Also, 30 Rock reference under your avatar? We are going to get along well. I wish I had the balls to have gotten involved enough in theatre to major in it. I've always loved it but always been too shy to actually try out or anything. Instead, I was in the pit band in high school, haha. So I was kind of involved, I just always wanted to be one of the ones up on stage. So kudos to you! I envy your bravery.

Welcome to the Fez. /quote] MARINA YOU STOLE MY WELCOME PHRASE GRR. Long sentences are the best sentences, so long as they're grammatically correct, which yours are! So much love to your long sentences. Also, RE: non-English-major Armadillos, there's a thread for you! fyemarmadillo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=random&action=display&thread=142We support Armadillos in other departments. And probably other shows, but those are the ones we've already babbled about incessantly. JOIN US YOUNGBLOOD.

Bowties are cool. Especially when Bill Nighy is wearing one in the same room as the Doctor.
OKAY so I just watched all of Doctor Who this past month. All of being Eccleston --> Smith. And now I'm obsessed.

I saw the non-English major thread... It definitely made me feel very happy, as I was apprehensive about being here as a theatre major.
Oh, Game of Thrones. After I finish the book I'm reading now, I plan on starting the Song of Ice and Fire series, and I'm sure I'll watch the show when I'm done.
It's not my favourite Shakespeare play, but I do like it. I didn't find that I really sympathized with any of the characters, but it was a decently enjoyable read.
Haha, yes, I love that quote. And go Canada!
I basically grew up doing theatre, which I think helps a lot. The younger / less inhibited you are when you start, the easier it is to continue when you get a little more self conscious, as most people do.
Thanks everyone!

I'm kinda liking having watched the first season and then starting to read the books, to be honest. Takes less time to try and formulate the appearances of the characters as I'm finding that they did a pretty fine job of casting. Sean Bean wins everything.

Seconding the advice to watch before you read. There's a certain spot a few chapters in that would've made me stop reading, if I hadn't known it would get better (it happens at the end of the second episode, for those who've seen it... I tend to overidentify with animals, and got pretty severely upset with that scene the first time I read it, many eons ago...).

I've only seen the first two episodes (haven't read yet) and I know the event of which you speak. My heart broke and I cried so hard that I had to muffle my face in my boyfriend's shirt so I didn't wake up the whole house with my sobs.
