I am going to put this in the literature section because it IS literature, goddamnit. Also, I didn't see a thread for this anywhere else, so if there is one feel free to point me to it. So, graphic novels. Anybody read 'em? I just took a Cartoons & Comics course last semester (it was cultural studies, not English, but he was an English prof) and I absolutely fell in love with the style. We read the usual array of superhero comics (Superman anthology, single comics of Fantastic Four, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, etc.) but also went into the graphic novel in great detail and in my opinion it's a wonderful and FAR underrated literary form. The big one we read for class was Craig Thompson's Blankets, which is an absolutely beautiful piece of work. The reason I thought to start this thread was because I just bought his most recent graphic novel, Habibi, which I have been dying to read since it came out. However, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Fables, Sandman by Neil Gaiman, and Spiegelman's Maus are also some of my favourites! Even if you don't like the idea of graphic novels/comic books/whatever, I'd definitely suggest checking out Sandman. Because Neil Gaiman. OH and my friend has been lending me Gotham City Sirens, in which Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy team up to try and fight crime and get in a bunch of silly adventures, as well as Hack/Slash, a horror/gore/supernatural/whatever story that's also worth checking out!
