Yeah, Connor was quite dumb to have around, though I think I hated Gunn the most. It makes me sad that Joss keeps dumb characters around sometimes. Season one was just so glorious with Doyle and still bitchy Cordy. If only it had later seasons Wesley in it it would have been amazing.
Angelus makes me happy in all the right ways. His Othello reference made my head explode with joy.

I have only seen the first two seasons, but I am soon going to borrow season 3 from my cousin (who has all seven seasons, as well as all of Angel and the movie on DVD) to continue with this awesome show.

I just found out that the entire series (and Angel's spin-off) is on Netflix, so I'm watching them all for the first time! I'm in the middle of Season Three and I LOVE it so far. I can't wait to see what it's like after high school.

I adore Buffy! I've seen all of it (and all of Angel) and it's definitely one of my favourite shows/fandoms. Probably my favourite characters are Giles, Spike and Buffy herself.
I agree that later on some of the themes were a bit ridiculous, such as magic = drugs, the whole Buffy/Spike dynamic, most of the Potentials... amusingly I actually kind of like Dawn, which is a pretty unpopular opinion. My favourite season is the fifth (:

One of the things that has always disappointed me is the fact that people love Buffy the Vampire Slayer...but hate Buffy. This makes no sense to me. She's the main character, the show is about her life...how can you dislike her?

It's not just about her life, though. She is the Slayer, but she rarely (if ever?) operates alone; she has the Scooby Gang (and others) and it's not so much about her life, but about their lives. I do not watch it for her. I watch it for Xander and Giles and Spike and (initially) Willow and Cordelia and Angel. The dialogue and relationships and personal side of the show is great, even if Buffy is a great, big bitch whom a lot of people hate.
BUT, I do know what you mean.

See, I don't understand that. I think Buffy is a magnificent character, but I'm a Joss!girl, so that might be why. Still, I love Sarah Michelle Geller's performance of her and think that she made the show what it is.

I love SMG, but I just... I can't get on with Buffy. I can see from a writer's point of view that she's a great, really interesting character, but to watch and like, if she were a person, I think she's horrid.

I'll have to rewatch the series (oh no...*cough*) and take another look, but I really like Buffy. I love almost all the characters (Darla and Crazyface I can do without).
Has anyone here read the comics, Buffy or Angel-wise?

Has anyone here read the comics, Buffy or Angel-wise? I've always found Buffy... bland, as a person. There were times where I think she was magnificent (the whole episode following her mother's death, for example, was the most poignant EVER), but for the most part I just wasn't overly attached, the way I very much was with most other characters. I adore the continuation comics of both Buffy and Angel (season 8 and "After the Fall", respectively), though I haven't read the plethora of other literature out there. I can't rationalize the other stuff as "canon," but the continuations have the heavy hand of Joss on them, so... yeah.

I think very few people watch Buffy for Buffy. Instead of all this talk about why she sucks why don't we talk about the great characters! I, for one, adore Willow, Xander, and Anya. They are all adorable and quirky, hilarious and sweet.

I like Willow more in the earlier series, and I would probably say the same for Xander, if it weren't for Anya. I LOVE Xander and Anya. THEY ARE THE BEST<33333333333

I ADORE ANYA SO MUCH. Whenever I acquire money, I do the "dance of Capitalist superiority" as an homage.
Also: Oz. The glory of the understatement. Yes.
Also also, has anyone else noticed that lesbian couples tend to be the most stable couple in any given show? Willow and Tara are a perfect example of this -- they were together longer than most couples on the show, and were pretty much the only grounded people in the group for much of their relationship. I mean, they took over the parental role for Dawn more than Buffy ever successfully did. The pattern is followed on Grey's Anatomy with the Cali/Arizona pair being the first to settle down and reproduce, and even on Glee the Brittany/Santana relationship is longer-lasting and more believable than any of the (many) heteronormative pairings. Anybody else have examples?

Oz deserved so much more than what he got. Though, in the comics, he got a lot...not entirely sure I agree with any of it.
Seriously, anyone else read those? They are supposedly canon, though I cannot see much, if any, of it happening had the show continued. Especially...nevermind, no spoilers here!

And hey, no one else is looking, so what were you going to say? (Also, they count as canon because they're written by Whedon, Who Is God. Do not question the Whedon.)
