We are lovers of words -- so why shouldn't we share those words with each other, and get some snail-mail in the bargain? Exchange Austenian confessions, literary debates, or poetry critiques, and rant about everything from school to squirrels?
Thoughts on setting up an Armadillo pen pal program?
PS: How many question marks can I use in a row without sounding repetitive?

I'm sort of torn on the subject. I would LOVE to do a Pen Pal program. However, as I've said before, I still live with my parents who think everyone on the internet is a pedophile. Also, even though I'm perfectly fine with talking on the internet, I'm really cautious about giving out my address. It's not that I don't trust you guys. I really do. It's just that I usually wait a lot longer to send snail-mail to people online. It's just a basic safety rule I follow.

My biggest reservation is that this forum is rather young and you don't have the reassurance of knowing the member for two/three years like on other forums. And only one or two of the members know each other in real life, unlike on forums where there have been group meetups with posted pictures of some members together etc., all of which are things that have made me comfortable giving out my address once before.
... maybe it would be best to do it through email, much as I would love to receive snail-mail from you guys. We could simulate a two-week delay in returning the email to mimic snail mail...? (Also, responding back and forth the instant you get a reply would be slightly tiresome). I'm kind of in the same position as Gina when it comes to internet safety. Again.
Also, apparently you can't change your vote when your instinct automatically votes "Hell Yes!" before thinking it through a bit more. So just know that was me and what my real vote is ^

I think I have to vote for e-mail as well, if only for the fact that I couldn't afford to send trans-Atlantic letters on a regular basis; the majority of users are in the US, so that is probably what I'd have to do if we went the snail-mail way.

I think doing this on an email trial-basis would be cool. Maybe once we get to know our pen pals a bit more, we could exchange addresses or something on our own terms? We shouldn't rush right into sending letters back and forth across the country, but I would love to have a fellow english major pen pal.

I agree with the "doing this on an email trial basis" statement. I think it'd be pretty fun. We should do themes or sommat, though, for each week, because I can never think of what to write about.

So, enough of this planning foolishness. We'll go by posting order -- post that you're in, then PM the person who posted before you with your email address. This way, everyone will have two pen pals. We'll cut off registration in one week (9/10, 11:59pm EST) and I'll PM whoever was last at that point.
Sound good?
(I ask as if you have a say. Reply, reply, reply!)

Are we starting a new thread for that, or are we doing it via here?

Here. May as well use this one. The real question is: Is that your reply?

...I'll start, I guess. This is my reply.
I think topics to write about would be a good idea, too.

This is my reply. I also think topics would be a good idea because otherwise all my emails would be like, "I went to class today. It was lame."

So, let's pick out some topics!
I say whoever posts get to pick the topic so we can keep this rolling, starting with the next post.
