I like looking at pictures, so I'm wondering if y'all have some of your favourite places, whether they be of your hometown, places you've seen in magazines/websites/etc., or ones you've taken while on vacation or visiting somewhere. Here's mine to start us off: This is Edinburgh, Scotland, taken from the top of Edinburgh Castle. In it, you can see much of the city, a bit of the castle, and the loch beyond. I was truly lucky to have such a clear day to take this photograph in my favourite city I've ever been to.

If you ask me where in the world I want to go most, I'd say this place: If you ask, I've got about a million stories to tell you about it. But I'll keep it short. It's my grandma's house in the village in the city of Shymkent, Kazakhstan. We went there every summer and during other vacations as well and it was paradise. At least until my grandma actually made us do work. I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now that I'll never see it again, because my grandma sold it and came to this country. But it had everything every fruit tree, every berry, flower, vegetable... and pets, over years we've had them all: cows, pigs, goats, ducks, geese, dogs, cats... and again, I could tell dozens of stories about them all. But I think the word childhood sums it up pretty well. Attachments:

@lobster : You know if the place means that much to you, and you miss it... screw family feuds, make up (even if it's just you) and visit as much as you can now! Because you'll miss it a lot when it's gone. I know I do. At least you're in the same country! lol

Chicago. I am horribly in love with Chicago. The love affair didn't really get serious until last summer but oh my god. I need to go back soon. Is it sad that I know the exact date I was last there? There is just something about getting off your train and walking out into the city, your view to the sky surrounded by skyscrapers. And that smell, you know? That sewage-y musk that is oh so nasty but defines Chicago. You have the lake. The parks. Museums. The long streets of stores. The amazing variety of food (...if you ignore that there is a Chipotle on every corner in downtown). The public transportation (I get a big kick out of this, coming from a town in the middle of nowhere). The neighborhoods! So many neighborhoods with so many different cultures. There is always something going on. A friend and I made our way through and around Bucktown, a very hipstery part of the city, and ended up randomly joining a street party. I feel like I didn't really know Chicago until I biked through it. A group of friends invited me to Critical Mass last summer, which, for those who don't know, is when hundreds of bikers "mass up" in Daley Plaza on the last Friday of the month to bike through the city, blowing red stoplights and pissing people off. It. is. amazing. I went to so many different areas in Chicago I had never been to before. Little Italy! Chinatown! And there is nothing like biking downtown Chicago and getting so fucking scared riding through the traffic. I have never really had a bad time there. Sure, the homeless people can be creepy (I was recently followed and harassed about three blocks by one because I didn't have cash on me). And it can be so fucking cold in the winter. (Yeah, piece of advice, don't go for a long walk along the lakefront in February) You can get lost. Or even kicked out of stores (Um, you apparently aren't allowed to take pictures in high-class department stores?). But everything is so worth it. And, for English majors, it has Myopic, ( www.myopicbookstore.com/) a used bookstore store that is a maze of ceiling-to-floor bookshelves. It is heaven. K. Done with my little ~Come to Chicago~ spiel. THIS. SO MUCH THIS. THIS IS MY LIFE. Oh my gosh, I can't even BEGIN to explain how much I love this city, and the anger I have at my parents for living in the suburbs. I go to Chicago so often, and yet I see something new every time. About two weeks ago, a friend and I went downtown to take my senior pictures (she is a photographer) and we spent practically the whole day looking for an alley. We found one right behind a theatre and got some really good shots in front of a stage door. If you would like to see some, feel free to message me. I don't want to put it out for the entire public. I'm just so in love with Chicago. ;D

I call Chicago my hometown, but I haven't lived there since I was two. Still, whenever I hit the city limits, I have this innate sense of being home. It's calming and lovely, like a soft summer breeze.

Boston. *swoons* It's so beautiful there, I love the subway system (where I live, we have to drive everywhere ), and there are so many delicious places. Not to mention I hear there's a great arts culture. I only spent one weekend there, but I'm in love with it. I want to go to college there (hoorah Emerson!).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Spain and Italy. I don't even have words to describe the beauty of Europe. You can see pictures and think "Oh, how beautiful," but until you see it in person, you have no idea.
Also, I would love to see Boston. I'm a big fan of Boston sports (Bruins and Red Sox = LOVE), and I think it's unacceptable that I have yet to travel to the city.

I know what you mean. Though I'm not fortunate enough to have seen Europe yet, I recently traveled to Thailand. It's so difficult to tell people how amazing it was, because you really have to be there to experience the country. If I listed my activities it would only sound vaguely fun, but I honestly had the most incredible time. That only reaffirmed my desire to see the world through my own eyes.

My favorite place that I've been/lived is the Hampton Roads area. Although I enjoyed the little bit of Europe I've seen, I have that complete home feeling whenever I'm there, despite not having lived there in over ten years.

Sauzet, in the South of France. I don't know if it was the people I was with or the town itself, but it was so... magical. Something right out of a fairy tale. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
(Trying to post pictures, but it isn't working right now. I'll get back to that!)
