We wanted a food thread in "Comments and Suggestions" and I just made one. I tried sushi for the first time today and I felt so ignorant (I don't even know how to hold chopsticks!). Are any fellow armadillos sushi-lovers? Do you have a favorite?

I'm still a sushi-novice, but I've learned a lot.

I've tried sushi, not my thing.
I'm generally a picky eater. So it takes ten minutes of convincing for me to try anything new.

I used to be a picky eater too, but recently one of my friends has been pushing me to try all these exotic cuisines (we tried Thai last week). Sushi was alright but all I had was an avocado roll. Nothing fancy. I was about to mix a bunch of wasabi into my soy sauce but my friend stopped me. It looks like guacamole! Mexican food is good. I like Mexican food.

I'm an incredibly picky eater, but can generally find something on any menu that I'd willingly eat -- though yes, I am that obnoxious person who orders food with "...and can I get that without the sauce?" I'm sorry, waiters of the world! I just don't like sauces (except for pesto, because pesto is the Best Thing Ever, omigosh).
Because of my pickiness, I do a lot of my own cooking -- food is more likely to have what I like in it when I put it in. Anything sauteed in garlic in improved tenfold.
I'm mostly a baker -- chocolate is my friend. And vanilla extract. I always put a bit more vanilla extract in than the recipe calls for... and by "a bit" I mean "a teaspoon."
I'm gonna go start a recipe thread! Yaaay.

My grandma on my dad's side is 100% Italian, so Italian food has always been my thing. I can't wait to post some recipes for everyone.

I don't think I've ever been able to go to a restaurant and order something without 'but without [X, Y, Z]?'. Often sauces, or cheese, and sometimes mushrooms. WHY DOES EVERYTHING COME WITH CHEESE OR MUSHROOMS?! Seriously, it annoys me SO much, especially because I feel so bad/embarrassed having to ask for things to be different; why make me feel bad just because I don't necessarily want cheese on my burger?

I work at a restaurant and it's not an unusual thing to get some seriously modified orders (which I will admit, the kitchen hates). It's not much of a hassle, really, we just have to make sure the order goes out right. I think the pickiest order I've ever rung in was a lady who called over the phone and asked to have her chicken fried in a separate frier with fresh oil that hasn't touched any of the other food and the same for her fries. The cooks gave me the stink eye when the order came back. Don't feel bad, though. I like my food like a kid--plain and nothing fancy, so a lot of the stuff I eat has to be modified. Oh, and I love Italian food. It was one of the big reasons why I decided to study the language. GELATO. GELATO IS SOOOO GOOD.

(except for pesto, because pesto is the Best Thing Ever, omigosh). I just made homemade pesto the other day, using the basil from our herb garden. Delicious. GIMME. That oil thing seems a bit much; do you know why she needed it done like that? Probably food allergies.

I think her husband was allergic to shellfish. Which was weird because we don't fry any shellfish in our friers. (Is it friers or fryers?)
Speaking of my job, do you all like Chili's? If so, favorite dish?

Speaking of my job, do you all like Chili's? If so, favorite dish? I don't think I've ever seen one... Just the commercials. And I know I've never been to one. But speaking of oil! OLIVE OIL. So wonderful. Fairway's (a grocery chain with two locations in NYC) has fantastic free samples of olive oil. I have been known to spend fifteen minutes or more standing there, munching on liberally-dunked bread and trying to learn the difference between a Californian olive oil and an Italian one. I haven't quite yet, but I'm determined to keep trying.

If Taco Bell delivered, I'd never have any money... ever.
