Here's a shout-out to everyone on this board! Hello from Singapore! I figured I should start on this board, so here I am with a short introduction! Starting next week I begin my sophomore year, and yes, I'm an English major (as most people are on this forum, I suppose). My favorite authors are JD Salinger, Neil Gaiman and Edgar Allen Poe. I believe you can tell a bit about a person from the kind of authors they like, so... Well, apart from literature, lately I've picked up an interest in film. Quentin Tarantino is my favorite director, and "Pulp Fiction" my favorite film. There's something about unconventional narrative structures that appeal to me. Also, I'm very interested in Japanese culture. More recently, I'm getting really into the Meiji Restoration (no thanks to anime/manga). Samurais are so cool. Thus ends my pretty short introduction (or list of things I like). It's nice to be here, and... hello again!

I think you may be our first Singapore native? Unless I've forgotten someone (unintentionally). Are you Singaporean or studying there? You have good taste. Neil Gaiman is glorious, as is Poe. As for directors, I'm not a huge fan of Tarantino, though my distaste for Tim Burton outweighs almost anything else in the world. The only things I dislike more are hipsters and a certain country. With directors, right now I prefer Nolan. I tend to pay closer attention to the writing and acting than the actual director's style, unless they have a very distinctive ~flavour to their films, in which case it normally just distracts me. What caused your recent interest in film? Asian history has never been my strong suit, though I believe it's quite fascinating culture-wise. I'm trying to delve more into the folklore of the continent, specifically India for now, then heading east. Feel free to give us more information on your likes/dislikes, or argue with us. Also, post other places, too! We enjoy talking to people, so you're more than welcome to talk to us. (Seriously, do it. This place has a tendency to die frequently. Save us!)

Yep, I'm an honest-to-goodness Singaporean. Most Singaporeans would probably have something to say about the country (mostly negative), but I'm pretty much apathetic when it comes to things like politics. A Tim Burton hater? May I ask why? Hahaa. Because personally, "Nightmare before Christmas" was quite a childhood favorite of mine. I guess the module I did on fictional film over the summer vacation did it for me. I've got a couple of friends who are film majors and would ask me out on their trips to the foreign film festivals they hold occasionally over here, so the interest has sort of been budding since then. Ah, Indian culture is pretty interesting, yes. I recently made a trip down to Little India for a little photography expedition. I don't know much about Indian folklore (except for the little tidbits of information I retained from the "heritage trips" they take us on in schools when I was younger). Have fun with that! Yep, this seems an interesting forum. I'll be sure to stick around.

Welcome! *offers virtual cookies*
I love Neil Gaiman.
And Tim Burton? Really? I do love his eccentric style, though I admit he gets a bit predictable sometimes with it.

I'm trying to delve more into the folklore Of course you are. More importantly, hello! Welcome to the Fez. Please feel free to bumble about and say stuff about other stuff and whatnot. Also, remember that sense is not always required of your sentences, so long as they are grammatically sound. Meiji Restoration, anime... Rurouni Kenshin fan?

I'm trying to delve more into the folklore Of course you are. What can I say? It's my thing. And am I really becoming that obvious?

Yes, Rurouni Kenshin fan. ;D I like Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan too, but that's not very historical, if you get what I mean. Haha. Thanks all for the welcome!
