I actually just saw an article that states that it wasn't removed from the style guide, but rather the initial article was based off of the journalism guide, which hasn't used the Oxford Comma in quite a while. When it comes to things like books, it's still allowed.

Even there, it says that the comma should be used to clarify in ambiguous cases. They're hardly getting rid of it. Just the news media trying to make more out of it than is actually there as usual.

It's a completely useless change, since its purpose has always been to clarify ambiguous cases.

So is it gone, or did I get a heart-attack for nothing?

It's a completely useless change, since its purpose has always been to clarify ambiguous cases. Not really, other style guides which support the usage say that you should always use the Oxford comma even if the meaning is clear without it, but the Oxford style guide says that you should only use it when the meaning of the phrase is actually ambiguous. Beside, that style guide is for publications about Oxford (such as brochures or the website - why else do you think there's a section for branding marks and logos?), not for general use. Not that if it were for general use, it would have been too shocking - almost nobody uses the Oxford comma in Britain. I'm also pretty sure the Oxford comma wasn't in the style good for a long while now - I remember reading about it many months ago. It's been on Wikipedia for ages, I can't believe it took people this long to find out.

The Oxford comma will never be gone as long as those who remain are loyal to it.

*does a little dance*
...What? I make no secret of my disdain for the Oxford comma.

Does anyone else find these language associations a bit silly?
