Well, I went to Umass for two years, going to Emerson next semerster, and we had the tallest library in the United States! But it's a rather ugly building... in my opinion, but the view from it was beautiful on one of the upper levels. I didn't care for the English building, it was one of the oldest. The only cool thing about it was the underground passage to another building. Attachments:

I wish I could find a picture, but it's pretty small. The roof caved in during class once.

My school spends all its money on athletics, so our library sucks. It was built in 1937 and the only updates it's received are the computers. The English department gets the second floor in the Humanities building, which also sucks. The best places to study and find fellow English majors is among the stacks on the second and third floors in the library. We do get a Starbucks inside the library which is pretty cool and convenient. Probably not as fancy as other schools, though. Attachments:

We don't have a whole English building, but this is my college's humanities building, Macmillan Hall. The old black and white photo was the only one I could find of the entire building; the second is (obviously) more recent, but it hasn't changed all that much. English classes were on the third floor in the south wing (right side of the photos).

Edit: Sorry for HUGE picture. We have a building that combines the Humanities. English has 7th floor. This is the usual calibre of our campus: Here is the sad looking Humanities building which is called Napier: They are doing a lot of upgrades, and three new buildings, to campus lately so hopefully it'll be prettified one day.

I go to University of Glasgow so I was expecting to have classes somewhere Hogwartsy like the Main Building: But the two buildings where I have most of my lectures and tutorials actually look like this: I couldn't find any pictures of the building with my English lit lecture hall, I suppose because it's really tiny (just the lecture hall and two seminar rooms) and not particularly pretty, only a generic building. But my English lit tutorials as well as the offices of the English lit faculty are in this row of Victorian terraces: They look boring, but they're really pretty inside because they have a lot of the original furnishing/paint/stain-glass/etc. The library is a cement 70s brutalist monster too, but it's really huge (12 levels and 2 million items in stock) and full of comfy chairs so it's not too bad. It's a bit of a shame that the buildings are so different from each other and there's no unified look/feel of the campus, mais c'est la vie. I love how full of green spaces the campus is (it's right next to a park and about 5 minutes away from the botanical gardens too) and my favourite places are the green patch outside the library and the benches on the western side of the main building. It's so nice to be able to sit on the grass and read on a sunny day.

Small-but-sprawling 60's era campus, because they keep tearing down the pretty old buildings from around 1900 and replacing them. Pretty old building: Type of crap it was replaced with: But hey, we have the world's largest free-standing wooden dome! The English department gets the second floor (of three) of Gries hall... which used to be a dorm... They've currently got plans to tear down the last old building, which has been out of use for at least 5 years. Oh, and as I mentioned in another thread, our main administrative building (where the President's office is/most of the departmental offices are) is riot-proof! And the tallest building on campus, at 6 floors.

I guess they went for size >_>

Just elevators. I guess they went for size >_> I guess my library can one up your Tallest Library We only have four floors (which are huge!) but we have escalators running through the center of the building. Way cool. And elevators and stairs.

I wasn't bragging. I was just stating a fact. You may have escalators, but it was still the tallest. I DON"T EVEN GO THERE (ANYMORE)!

And elevators and stairs. Yes but EVERY storied building is legally required to have those. Escalators are rather unique. Unless there is something unique about our stairs and elevators that I know nothing about. Our library has the only set of escalators in the entire county.

The English Department occupies the 5th floor of this *lovely* building... along with most every other department in the humanities. The temperature fluctuates by a huge margin and the stairs are suicidal. On the upshot, someone stenciled a TARDIS on the side of the building, with the word "Believe".

It's...interesting. *cough* This is where I take my English classes. It's three stories, from the 1950s, and there's asbestos in the stairs. Also, the basement has a Hellmouth.

^ I will second that. I hope my future campus is that cool. If not, I will introduce them to Doctor Who and make them so >
