I'm having a problem of sorts. I will be attending a Baptist college this fall and I am having some difficulty deciding on my second major. All students get a basic "Christian Studies" major, but I can't chose between English and Missions as my second major.
I know I am going to be a missionary, but I am seriously considering having English as my second major, because it would be more useful.
My main issue is that I have no idea how the Christian college setting will influence the courses and overall study if I do pursue English. Any Armadillos out there know what it is like to pursue English at a Christian College?

Can you do two majors and a minor? It'll be a bit more work, but that way you can get your major in Christian Studies and Missionaries, and a minor in English (or vise-versa).
If you can't (although I've honestly never heard of a school barring people from having two majors), then I'd seriously think about which you need more than the other. Do you need to major in Missions to be a Missionary? If you don't, and you feel that English would be more beneficial, then I'd probably major in English.

From what my friends tell me, English in a Christian college is all right. You won't be reading things like Lolita and the like, so you don't really get a wide perspective. If I may ask, which one are you going to? I have tons of friends at both BJU and Pensacola I could ask if you have any more specific questions.
And for everyone else there is banned everything.

I'm guessing the structure/requirements as well as the course content would depend greatly on the college and your best bet is probably to check the college website and if you have any more doubts email somebody from the college.

Well, I don't need the missions major in order to work with the group I hope will be my future employer, so I'm still trying to figure out what I will be doing. I've looked at the course description, and it seems like I would enjoy the English major more.
I will be going to the College at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. As far as I know, because I have some friends going there already, it is nowhere near as crazy conservative as places like BJU. So I assume that it isn't going to be very bothersome about banning books. And even if they did ban books for some reason, I would be the one to read them. Because I'm something of a rebel when it comes to silly church rules.
So thanks for the help. I appreciate it. Still undecided on what I will do, but this definitely helps.
