From the first to second grade I was put into a supplemental reading program called LEAP. It's funny because I never felt that I was behind my classmates, but apparently I wasn't reading very well. Anyway, in this program books were arrange in levels of difficulty and once we mastered one level we could pick out books from the next level. I don't know if it was the books that I liked or the feeling of progression, but I came to really enjoy reading. My reading waned after about sixth grade on until I read Notes from Underground when I was fifteen or sixteen and was absolutely floored by it....and now the kid that couldn't read so well is an English Lit major.

I'm pretty sure I was just BORN a reader, because I honestly can't remember a time in my life that didn't involve me reading constantly. The first series that I completely fell in love with was the Harry Potter series, though, which I started reading the moment I turned six and my mother agreed I was old enough to handle the "dark themes" in the books. From there, I literally read anything I could get my hands on. I prided myself in higher-level books at the age of 7 or 8 (which resulted in me learning more than I should about hormones and sex and such at a young age, because I was reading YA novels), and in middle school I went through a vampire obsession and began reading Anne Rice novels. Reading Oedipus Rex during my freshman year of high school made me realize I wanted to be an English major, though...I was the only kid in my class who not only understood the play, but also ENJOYED it.
