I think it safe to assume that since we're all book lovers here that each of us picked up a book at one time or another that flicked a switch and made us all bookworms.
For me, I'd have to say it was Matilda. I picked it up in the library when I was six or so and I guess I just wanted to be Matilda. After that, I devoured as many books as I could as fast as I could.
How about you?

I'm pretty sure it was the Sheltie books. They were about a girl and her Shetland horse, who was, naturally, the hero all the time. There were about seventeen of them and I devoured them all. I remember the first time I managed to finish one in a single evening, I was so excited! Those and Animal Ark books, which we had because my sister loved them, but I read them all, too.

It was this book I found at the library about a Native American girl who was enslaved by the Spanish colonialists. I can't remember the title or the author to save my life, but it was an amazing book that made me want to find more books. I think I was in fifth grade when I picked it up. I also really liked the books about the blue cat (Were they named Felix the Cat? I can't remember) in kindergarten so I guess I showed a love of books at an early age.

Those and Animal Ark books, which we had because my sister loved them, but I read them all, too. I LOVED the Animal Ark books! They sold them at my school's bookfairs. My favorite was "Puppies in the Pantry", if I recall correctly.

I guess the default answer would be Goosebumps and Choose Your Own Adventure.

I guess the default answer would be Goosebumps and Choose Your Own Adventure. Ha, I remember everyone would fight over the Goosebumps books when we were in school.

Danny and the Dinosaur. It's what I learned to read on.

I read kids books when I was a young one. According to my mom, when I was two or three, I started reading a book to her when she was taking too long (she read me a book while I was in the tub. She was taking too long to come into the bathroom, so I picked it up and started reading it). Reading was never really a "thing" for me though. I never truly enjoyed it as a passion like I do now...until seventh grade.
My social studies teacher that year was a huge fantasy fan and had a collection of books she lent students: Tolkien, Robert Jordan, David Eddings, and others. She offered to loan me a book when I expressed interest, I had no idea what I wanted to read, and she handed me The Belgariad by David Eddings.
That was the beginning.

This is kind of weird, but I still don't really feel like a reader, I guess.

The first book that I read on my own was Oh, the Places You'll Go, and I've loved books ever since. What really hammered it in, though, was Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness Quartet -- that was what began my seeing books as a refuge, and brought my love to new levels of devotion.

Is it bad that I don't remember? I mean I read books in two different languages and as far as I remember I have always liked reading. But if we're speaking about English, it was either the Magic Tree House series that did me in, or Inkheart. Or both.

Oh man, my mom used to read Miss Spider books to me since before I could read. That definitely fostered my love of reading and my love of spiders. Also, I used to have a book of short stories that I loved to read which included an excerpt of Oh, the Places You'll Go .
Then, I went back to "real school" after being home schooled for a while and kids picked on me for being a bookworm. So, for years I wouldn't read because I didn't want to be a nerd (my anxiety was really bad back then so I blame that).
Now that you have my life story I'll leave. I really need to stop over-sharing.

All of Mercedes Lackey's writing.
She was the one that really got the ball rolling for me.

All of Mercedes Lackey's writing. She was the one that really got the ball rolling for me. I read Magic's Pawn/Promise/Price in my pre-teen years. Devastatingly sad, but I loved every page. For some reason I haven't picked up anything else by her...

I have no bloody idea... I know that the first book I read on my own involved chocolate chip cookies, but I don't remember a time when I wasn't a reader. I just... am.
