What's the one Shakespeare production you're forced to watch in every Shakespeare class that you JUST CANNOT STAND?
For me, it's Brannagh's Hamlet. The man is a ham. He goes overboard in a few scenes, and the way he kills Claudius at the end is just...unnecessary and stupid.
Oh, and McKellen's Richard III. I love McKellen, but I don't think that was a particularly good production of the play. Ron Cook<3

Did anybody else watch that Midsummer Night's Dream with the little green men? I was forced to watch it in seventh grade, and it's stuck with me ever since, though that's all I remember about it. That, and it was godawful.

I don't know which version of MND we watched, but it had the fairies as... people with glitter on. Eek. I was so annoyed by the lack of... fairy-ness.

I don't think I've actually seen a truly terrible version of Shakespeare...then again, I haven't seen a lot of Shakespeare productions outside of the theatre. I think maybe that one of Macbeth set in the post-apocalyptic world was pretty not good, though I dislike the Welles version more. Just...just no.

I don't think a really good film adaptation of MSND exists. I've noticed most of them take the damn thing too seriously. It's a hilarious play and it should be presented as such.
Also, wasn't there a Much Ago About Nothing adaption with Keanu Reeves, or was that a different play? God, it was awful.

Keanu Reeves was a vortex of suck though, dragging down the quality of everyone and everything around him.

That was Much Ado, and while Keanu was god-fracking-awful, I really, really adore the rest of that adaptation. Of course, I had practically worn the cassette out by the time I was 12, so...

I feel like this thread isn't completed until someone mentions the 1996 adaption of Romeo and Juliet. It's creative and unique, but, in my opinion, it's a bit too unique.

Although Clare Danes isn't great in it, I think she's a lot better than Olivia Hussey. (Although I've only seen the balcony scene from that adaptation, so I probably shouldn't judge, but it seemed like Juliet rambled on and on and on...) Leonardo DiCaprio is fantastic though.

Three words: West Side Story. I know it's not a "true" Shakespeare, but it was still horrible.
