Or something like that. I'm enrolled in 18 credits next fall, and then 12 upper-level in the spring. It is my last year, though, so I suppose there's an excuse. I'm Katje. I'm not an English major, actually, but this is only my first Bachelor's. When I move after graduation to the big city I'm considering going in for an English major degree at SFU, and then perhaps a Master's in Publishing. Maybe. I haven't really decided yet. I've been an English major at heart, however, since high school, and I am a huge fan of FYEMA. I also like joining new forums. It's another addiction. I write, read, and publish (yeah, that would be why I'm thinking about the Master's in it) all manner of things. My background is in theatre, and I'm branching from acting into burlesque dancing. And while I know the rules of English (my mother is an English professor), I don't always follow them, whether ironically, for style reasons, or because I'm feeling lazy. (Microsoft Word grammar check hates me.) -Katje

Welcome Katje! I've always been told that once you know the rules, you're allowed to break them

I, too, am addicted to academia. I'm majoring in English and history, minoring in classics and getting a concentration in medieval studies. I also want to see if I can contract out a minor in mythology because THAT WOULD JUST BE AWESOME. *le cough~* My goal is to become a professional student like the Ombudsman of my university. He's the first(?) one to introduce me to the idea and once I learned this was possible, I immediately decided that was what I wanted to do. But in order to do that, I'll need to get a job at a university as once I work there for a bit, most universities allow you to take classes. For. Free. !!! Welcome to the FYEMA boards! Forums are fun (when they aren't filled with mean, crazy people).

Unfortunately I'm a bit of a troll student, so I don't think they'd want me that much. ;D Thanks for the welcome! I love fora; I have one that I check religiously (and it's a pagan forum, so it fits), and others here and there that I pop into from time to time. This one I may check more often than those. (As for mean crazy people...well, I'm apparently a FMPPH, so.)

I'm branching from acting into burlesque dancing. Burlesque is so amazing. I've always been interested in it. Is it fun? It's incredibly fun. You get to work with awesome people, be in charge of your own creative process on stage, and sometimes (not always) take your clothing off and dance around. The costuming is completely up to you, too, and the bigger the better. Lots of glitter, sequins, feathers, fake eyelashes, big makeup, fancy shoes. The best part is that you can do this with any body type. Burlesque is very body-positive, which is important to me as I'm quite fat. And you don't have to be a professional dancer. I'm certainly not. If you have physical limitations you can make them work to your advantage because you create your own acts. I find it very liberating after years of traditional theatre and the proverbial casting couch. In burlesque I don't have to pander to what a male director wants to see from me (usually not much -- as I said I'm fat and dudes seem to believe that means I can never play a sexual role). I can choose exactly what to do on stage and no one can tell me no. (Of course not all theatre is like this. There are some fantastic companies out there and I'm not planning on quitting the theatre altogether. I'm just...becoming more choosy as to whom I wish to work with.) I actually got into burlesque through my boyfriend. He isn't a burlesque performer on his own (he doesn't have a burlesque name, or do his own, personally choreographed acts) but he does work with the main burlesque group in his town from time to time, when they need a strong man type character (someone who can pick up other people, or be a large presence on stage -- my boyfriend's nickname is Hagrid because he's a giant). He is quite creative, in a practical way, and helps out with the choreography too (for me and my best friend, another burlesque performer, as well). My best friend also has a theatre background, and she and I are both looking into bringing more of burlesque's roots back to the experience. Right now we're in the heyday of Neo-Burlesque, which focuses more on the stripping and less on the story. Which is fine -- I'm cool with naked people of all stripes. And I'm ok with being considered a sex worker if I'm doing Neo-Burlesque. However, we would like to see more satire of political or cultural tropes, more variety shows...more vaudeville, really. We may end up doing our own two-person theatre company for precisely that sort of thing. We haven't really worked it out yet but it's what we want to do. So, yes, burlesque is awesome! Definitely check out some shows if you get a chance (and remember that not all burlesque is created equal, so if you see a show that sort of disappoints you, don't give up and try again!).

And I'm sad to say I can't remember what scene (precisely; I have a feeling it's one of the later movies) my avatar is from, because I've been up all night and my brain is fuzzy. But tell your boyfriend 'thank you' all the same!

What do you mean "publish"? (This word has too many different connotations...)
