So I guess that I should introduce myself, despite having been on the board for a few days. Hmm, my first name is the same as quite a few members on this board. I am not super comfortable revealing personal info on the net, so we will leave it at that (It was only until a few weeks ago that I finally broke down and got a Facebook). I'm an English major who will be graduating next spring (if everything goes right!). I'm Secretary for the same chapter of Sigma Tau Delta as Dodger Thirteen/Cat. We are troublemakers in class, so watch out.
Ummm, I almost didn't major in English! I thought about being a math, bio, or engineering major. I settled on English because I love it and just couldn't see myself in a career for any of the other majors. I love my sciences, though. It has been my hope and desire to become a librarian; I currently have worked at a library for about ~5 years. I am excited for grad school and hope that I get into where I want to go! Luckily no GREs for me!
I love exclamation points, by the way.
My two most favorite television fandoms are Doctor Who and Bones. BIG Harry Potter fan. I will read anything, including the back of ketchup bottles. I am a huge fan of young adult books and feel that they can be a million times better than some of the adult junk that is being published today. Books are my passion : ) Otherwise, I am completely boring and am okay with that!

My two most favorite television fandoms are Doctor Who and Bones. BONES! This is the first mention of it that I've seen on the FYEMA forum, but it's definitely one of my favorite shows. What do you think of the recent finale?

I'm also a huge YA fan! I took a genre study course on it my Junior year of university and had a great time. Is there any particular sub-genre you prefer?
Librarian would be a wonderful job, would it not? I went a similar route and decided that instead of grad school for Library Sciences I'd be an editor or publisher and amass so many books I could just have my own library.

What do you think of the recent finale? I had been trying to avoid spoilers with the finale, but it seems like most of the fans online generalized that they would pull an X-Files and say that she was pregnant. I mean, it was definitely a possibility that they would do it since Emily Deschanel is pregnant. I am torn. I am glad that they are going down the road of X-Files with not showing ~that part~ of Bones and Booth's relationship. But the other half of me is upset that we didn't get to see anything. We've been strung along for, what, six seasons so far? The least they could do is appease the fans. I am not sure about Bones being pregnant, either. I am not a big fan of children, and I have always been happy that they've portrayed Bones as a woman who isn't crazy for them. It makes her character so strong, in my eyes. But then, having children would develop her character even further. I am on the fence about it.

I would love to take a course on young adult books! So jealous right now. My university can be so traditional sometimes. I appreciate that they are building a foundation of knowledge for me, but, you know, sometimes you just want to have a fun class! I have no idea which area of library science that I would like to study, but youth services/young adult has been on my list of possibilities. Science fiction and fantasy are probably the two genres that I prefer. I am not big on "supernatural romance" or whatever they are call it at Barnes and Noble, but I will read it. Honestly, I will read anything. I some of my favorite authors are John Green, Maureen Johnson, Libba Bray, Kristin Cashore, Scott Westerfeld, Tamora Pierce, and ooooh so many more. What genres/authors do you like?

I need the female lead to be really freakin' awesome as well; Whiny Bitch Protagonists are pretty high on my list of Things I Cannot Stand in Books. (Shall we raise Twilight as exhibit A?)

Gods, this! I prefer my female protagonists to be strong, kick-ass women. Woman with actual character who aren't projections of the author.

They aren't so hard to catch, either -- if you skim a few works by the author and the protagonists all have the same quality(ies), yeah, they inherited that from their maker.

OR they have all those perfect, Mary-Sue qualities that the author wishes he/she had.

See, if the men are boring, I get bored. Often, the female lead is just flat or a stand-in for the reader, so I find myself ignoring her and focusing on the men. Perhaps it's just me, but that's how it is.
