This has been the most lively and heated discussion on the blog since day one, so it only makes sense that it should be the first topic created here on the forum!
Kindle, Nook, Kobo, iPad...there are dozens of e-readers on the market today and, with sales of these devices rising, what is the future of bound and printed books? Do you love e-readers? Hate them? Are you indifferent? Argue your points Armadillos! (and remember to stay civil!)

I can't say that I hate them, but I personally prefer actual books myself. I can't stand e-readers, but I'm bias because I enjoy actual books.

I prefer physical books myself....but I don't believe that reading e-books means you enjoy the literature any less. Certainly not! In fact, many people who buy e-readers do so because they enjoy reading so much that they cannot cope with the sheer number of books they own and/or want to purchase!

I used to be very much against e-readers, purely on principle. However, my sister got one last Christmas and absolutely loves it; she literally takes it everywhere with her. She reads more than I do even though she works eleven-hour days and I'm a part-time English student! Also, a lot of the arguments put forth in favour of them on the blog have convinced me. A Kindle is definitely going on my Christmas list!

I believe words and the meaning that is attached to them are the same no matter what surface it is to be read on. Personally, I would not read on an e-book, but my opinion is not all that valid because I have not used or even touched an e-reader in my life; so it is most likely a vanity bias. I think e-books can be useful though such as to my grandmother who would want to read War and Peace , but does not want to lug a one thousand page book around in her purse. It's all personal preference, and I don't see the fuss about it. I don't understand how e-books are affecting anyone. Some say that e-books are killing book stores, but so is amazon. I buy almost all my books on amazon because of how much cheaper it is than normal borders and such. I will definitely hate the day where paperback books are a thing of the past; i suppose, i must stock up while I can. -Sorry, English is my 2nd language, so there will be a few errors.

I don't really have anything against e-readers, nor do I plan on getting one any time soon.
To each their own.

I'm hesitate to try them. My roommate lovers hers, but I really love having a book physically in my hands. I can see e-readers being usual for classes though.

The idea of using e-books as texbooks does bother me a bit....mostly because of how small the screens are! I need to be able to spread out a book in front of me to study. I don't know how well I'd fare hunched over a tiny screen furiously clicking the page turn buttons to go back and forth between information I want....plus, it would be difficult to annotate! I'm the sort that writes all over my school books so an e-reader, even one with a qwerty keyboard, could pose problems.

Oh god, I definitely wouldn't want one for school books! That'd be a nightmare.

I can see why people use them, for travel and because in the long-run the books are cheaper, but I definitely prefer physical books myself. There's nothing like flipping through a book.

I completely agree Lizzie-who-will-be-an-admin-eventually-as-soon-as-Olive-gets-online! I like the feel of books, as ridiculous as it sounds.... But if I ever start to do a lot of traveling, I will definitely consider an e-reader! One of my best friends is in England right now and, as she's the sort that would die without her favorite books close at hand, her iPad is her favorite possession!

If you have to print pages out anyway, it should be a real book! For personal use, I think e-readers are good, but it doesn't make sense to use them for something like that.
