I grew up learning both English and Spanish (because my mother never bothered to learn English) and speak Italian fairly well, but not well enough to be considered fluent. I want to learn Greek next. I tried out Latin for a day but I hated it. I also took a year of French in high school but I already forgot most of what I learned.

I'm minoring in French and I feel like I'm just on the cusp of considering myself "fluent", I write a lot of papers in French and can read it, but I really need to go to Europe and immerse myself in the language. I'm kind of at that make it or break it point. I feel like full time immersion with limited English will do the trick.

I wouldn't say I'm fluent, but I've been taking Spanish for four years.

If I had the means I'd totally be in Europe right now.

My comprehension is fine (both reading and listening), but since I very rarely get a chance to speak it/write it (and actually have someone, you know, correct me) I can't call myself fluent. I still make the stupid little mistakes regarding case/gender just because it's not ingrained. I still have to think about it, and that tears me apart. I want to study abroad... gah, Europe, why are you so expensive!

I should be fluent in German but hesitate to say that I am. I majored in German Literature so I can read and understand the language quite well, but my grammar is kind of awful when I write or speak. I also spent time in Germany for an exchange program a few years back so you'd think I'd be more confident in the language.

I'm sure if we got more financial aid it would be more achievable to study in Europe. A lot more financial aid.

Enough to have basic conversations and navigate a shopping mall? Mandarin Korean My friend introduced me to CN Blue and We Got Married the other day, so now I'm desperate to learn Korean. I've got "thank you" down, and "sweet potato", but that's it.

I've been learning German for what seems like a bajillion years now but I can't say I'm fluent yet. Like someone else mentioned, I can read/write/understand it very well but speaking it is something completely different. -___- I consider it my second language though. In addition to it I've taken Mandarin, Japanese, and French over the years. I'm "self teaching" Korean right now until I can get back home and get a tutor.

My goodness, so many people who know German! This is exciting, since I, too, am a German-enthusiast. I'd say I'm proficient in it: I can hold a conversation, but I'll struggle for words. I studied for a year in Germany, but I've neglected the language since then and I'm probably not as good as I think I am.
Other than that I've attempted to teach myself a number of languages, but I lose interest after a while.

German is pretty much my life after Marine Biology. I have a 6ft German flag hanging over my bed. >_>

I want to study abroad... gah, Europe, why are you so expensive! Look at other schools. My school offers a program called NIU at Oxford. It's about $10,000 total (that's including airfare, which isn't included in the program price, and various other odds and ends) for five weeks studying at Oriel College, Oxford University. I went two years ago, in 2009, and while there we had a non-NIU student. Basically, he registered with us as a student-at-large, filed the paperwork, and was eligible to go. So if you start looking into programs other schools offer, you should be able to do so. Said student was also from a state or two away, so it's not impossible.

I also have one with the DDR eagle on it. Sometimes I feel so unpatriotic because I've never owned an American flag, yet I have a trillion things with German flags on them.
