One of my favourite books is Catherine, Called Birdy by Karen Cushman and I don't know anyone else who has read it. I love diary form, I love the middle ages and I love snarky interesting female characters. I ended up buying that book on a whim when I ran out of books on holiday and I love it! (I may or may not have gone round using 'God's thumb!' for weeks afterwards.)

To bring up another Maureen Johnson book that I read in high school that none of my friends seemed interested in reading, The Bermudez Triangle. I had read about the drama, book banning, etc concerning this book on Maureen's blog and picked it up last summer or the one before. I loved it! I really wish that there were more books out there like this for young adults or that authors weren't afraid to write them. Oooo, I now have an urge to go read this again. I know, I really liked it! Isn't it silly when a book can get banned, not for being violent or profane or offensive, but for having two girls that become romantic? I also thought of a book I loved when I was little, Stellaluna. I used to adore this book. I still have it downstairs somewhere. It was about a baby fruit bat who got separated from her family and was raised by birds. But then the birds get older and have to learn to fly, and eventually Stellaluna is reunited with her family.

Anyone familiar with Diana Gabaldon's 'Outlander' series? I started reading them when I was 14 or 15 (perhaps younger than I should have been), and have read the first of the series several times, and the rest at least twice.

Though I've only read the first one. I hate the idea of reading books out of order and I've rarely been sure which one the second is (or when I am sure I can never find it).

The Girl in the Flammable Skirt by Aimee Bender. It's a collection of short stories that are amazing. I read it all in one afternoon right after I bought it. I was at my friend's bf's house at the time and I ignored both of them so I could finish it.

I went online after reading it to look for other books of hers; I remember seeing this. Knowing that someone recommends it, I will probably interlibrary loan the shit out of it

Aimme Bender came to our college and I went to her talk. I even asked her a question at the end. But I didn't have any of her books, so I didn't get anything signed T_T
