Upcoming Semester's Reading List

We're reading Jude the Obscure in my Social Problems in 19th Century Lit class in the fall. I like Hardy. I'm excited.

Which really doesn't seem like much. I suppose it is a writing-based course though....

I'm surprised at many of your lists, though. It seems like much of what you guys are doing in college we did in high school, while a lot of what other high school students are doing I've never even heard of.

I read those three books for my AP Lang and Comp class my junior year. The class really is based on your mastery of rhetoric, debate, and the five-paragraph essay (well, mine was).

C.S Lewis - The Discarded Image
Derek Pearsall - The Life of Geoffrey Chaucer


Modern Imagination in Europe
Camus - The Outsider
Flaubert - Madame Bovary
Kafka - The Trial
Baudelaire - Flowers of Evil

And a selection of Surrealist and Holocaust poems.

*flails* I love, love, love Camus. The final essay I wrote for my analysis of lit class last semester was on L'Etranger.

But I swear I'm not an existentialist or an absurdist.

On second thought, it says that the Honors English II curriculum is way different than what I read, even though the Honors English I curriculum is exactly what I did. Who knows? Maybe my teacher had pulled some string.

This is the reading list I had this past year, except we also read Catcher in the Rye. YOU WILL LOVE AP LANG. Just saying.
