Catchy does not equal good. And the only reason she's catchy is because her songs repeat the same damn syllable(s) for most of the song. RA RA OH MA MA GA GA OO LA LA

Meh. She looks like she was hit with a truck and her voice makes my ears ache immensely. Going to politely remind you that looks don't mean that an artist is good or bad :P I am on the fence about Gaga. Some of her songs are definitely catchy. I really like my music lyrics to have meaning. Let's just say that there is little there to understand in her music. I do think that her music videos have been interesting and groundbreaking. I like some of her messages. But she isn't a fabulous songwriter.

Going to politely remind you that looks don't mean that an artist is good or bad :P I'm going to disagree since Lady Gaga goes out of her way to draw attention to her appearance with her outlandish outfits. Clearly, her expression of herself is just as important to her version of entertainment as the "music" is, thus her appearance helps make her or break her.

No one mentioned the "Friday" by the Rebeca Black. We not so excited.
And I do wonder if Lady Gaga would be half as popular if she didn't pull the crazy, weird shit.

I wouldn't say Lady Gaga's videos were groundbreaking. She's not the director, etc. Plus most of them side by side with Madonna are the same. She just repeats and steals from other artists, even non-music ones. Pretending to masturbate her non-existent penis and flip us the bird over and over.... eh. :\ I don't respect music "artists" when their work is just "JOO JOO JUDAS." Like, really, come on. That's all you have to say about Judas (who's over done in the first place)? And I think she plays off the LGBT thing for popularity. She has said some very disparaging remarks about trans-gender people. :\ ENOUGH OF MY RANTING! I very much dislike the song about whipping hurr back and forth.

How could I forget: California Girls or whatever that Katy Perry song is called. It was/is EVERYWHERE and I just don't want to hear it anymore. I told a coworker a while back that I hated Katy Perry and that song in particular. He made a point of singing it the rest of the night. If he hadn't been so goddamn cute I would have punched him in the gut while on break.

How the hell could *I* forget Katy Perry? I loathe her!

Those lyrics to ET? TERRIBLE AND LAUGHABLE. And the sound of the song is clearly stolen from a Russian pop band. We could argue about how everyone steals from everyone in music, but I won't go down that road. Yet.

STORY TIME: Y'know the movie Avatar, aka Pocahontas in Space? I loved that movie. Loved it. Until the end credits, when the painfully cheesey "I See You" by Leona Lewis came on, and I nearly screamed.
SO MUCH POTENTIAL for a beautiful choral piece in the Na'vi language, ruined by awful pop music! ARGH.

Ahaha, are you an Avatar nerd? I feel like I must now put some distance between us. Especially if you've tattooed yourself blue.

I like Katy Perry, but ET is probably my least favorite song by her.
However, I am impressed that she could fit the word "transcendental" into her bridge. I think of Thoreau EVERY time.

I just really liked the movie, and think it's impressive that they invented a whole (workable) language for it -- and that that language sounds wonderful sung (as they do in one of the scenes), which would make a much more poignant song for the end credits.

...Ugh. Avatar. Just...no.
Can I include this under here? No? Time to create a "least favourite movies" thread, then.

Ben Folds fits transcendental into one of his songs and I can't remember which. But it is a million times better than Katy Perry's. And is it just me, or does she mispronounced "extraterrestrial" ?
