Honestly? You don't have to be a great writer to teach English. I mean, if your grades in these classes are a lot worse than your average/other classes, then that's not going to help you get a job, but not being a great writer won't stop you.

Mythologies by Roland Barthes... Still. I cannot get through it. Forty pages to go and all I want to do is hide it away in a box so I never have to see it again. D: Theeeen, also Beowulf.

Today, I learnt that my flatmate is not only excessively rich, but she's a massive Tory, thinks all taxes go to "junkies", and her family keep loads of their money in off-shore accounts.

Additional thoughts: Was it really that believable that Amy would lose faith in the Doctor by him just telling her those things? I'm sorry, it would take A LOT, including actual betrayal, for me to lose my faith in him. Does that mean her faith wasn't that strong to begin with, if a couple sentences completely destroys it? And don't start on the power of words, I am an English major after all THIS. Ridiculous.

Yeah, maybe I'd see your point about Amy not mooning over people she's affectionate for, if not for her treatment of the Doctor; it's total hero-worship, as the last episode showed. It bugs me that she's so loopy over the Doctor, but is so not that way over her husband. I get your point about Rory, but at the same time, I think we have seen sometimes (more in the last series, or earlier on anyway) that Rory has been insecure about Amy's feelings, and we have been unsure about them. That's not how it should be. The Doctor is (it appears to me) always Amy's main focus. It annoys me in general that the Doctor is, more often than not, the best, most amazing, most valuable person in the companion's life, and I dislike Amy, and I dislike the treatment of Rory overall, so each objection I have plays off the other and ok, maybe I get a bit carried away being annoyed by it. But yeah, maybe we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

^FUCK YES. Gin is incredible; best drink ever. AND, if you need a really cheap, yummy drink: gin and squash (topped up with water, unless you really like it strong). Oh, gin is the best.

For the record/if anyone cares, I hate Amy, and I hate the treatment Rory gets. He's treated like a bumbling buffoon (that's how it comes across to me anyway), but y'know, anyone remember that time he was a Roman for 2000 years? Because it doesn't seem like the writers do, or Amy does. That was fucking badass and Rory is clearly competent and awesome. It's always Amy or the Doctor getting them into pickles and Rory's just taken for a ride and shoved to the side, except when Amy wants to make a silly 'banter'ish comment (when she's not mooning after the Doctor)... rantrantrant.

^Sleep is amazing. Oh my god, it's so good.
Today, I learnt that the Noisettes are playing at Exeter's Freshers' Ball, which has effectively saved me £30. Awesome.
ETA: I finally learnt who sings the "There she goooooooes" song! Best ever.

I really like Cath Kidston mugs (the big round-y ones); only a £5 but much bigger than standard mugs, whilst still being quite thin/fine china. Perfect! I'm not a fan of Cath Kidston usually, but I like those mugs. Other than that, I love Dunoon mugs. My mum has the Richmond shaped one, but I prefer Nevis. My mum's getting me a Nevis one with poppies on as a leaving present for uni. I'm very excited. www.temptationgifts.com/acatalog/Nevis_Flora_poppies-lg.jpgMy problem with cups usually is that the beautiful, pretty, fine, flowery ones I like are too small and I don't see the point of having a miniature cup of tea; I could use a pot, but using a pot just for me seems like too much faff and also, a tiny bit sad. Swan-shaped kettle sounds AMAZING. I want!
